People start chiropractic care for many different reasons. However, our primary goal is not simply to alleviate your pain or symptoms. Instead, we strive to ensure that your nervous system, which is your body’s “Information Superhighway,” is able to relay the vital nerve messages back and forth between your body and brain. This is paramount if you want to be healthy because your nervous system, which is housed within the spine, controls and coordinates all the parts and functions of your body. Our initial focus is on detecting and correcting misalignments of the spine, known as Vertebral Subluxations. Through our Wellness education program, we help our clients and their families learn how to maintain their spine and reach their true health potential. Our goal is to help our clients experience Optimal Health now and in the future!
Your “Information Superhighway,” or your nervous system, controls, and coordinates every function in your body through vital nerve messages, which are responsible for ALL healing and regeneration in your body. Your current level of health potential is quite simply a by-product of the quality and quantity of your nerve messages. When you have a healthy nerve system that can properly communicate with all the parts of your body, you are better able to handle the challenges of life because you can adapt and recover at your best!
What is Vertebral Subluxation?
Vertebral Subluxation results when your spine is shifted away from its normal healthy position and losses its ability to move properly. This places pressure or stress on your nerve system and results in an interruption to the vital nerve messages that run your entire body, causing most of the unwanted health problems people battle with every day. Physical, chemical, mental, or even emotional stresses in your environment can overwhelm your body’s defenses. When environmental stresses are greater than your body can adapt to, this will produce vertebral subluxation. Today’s lifestyle, combined with various stresses, can cause you to become stressed out’! The resulting vertebral subluxations leave your body in a weakened state, which means you are more likely to become “stressed out”! In essence, your body starts to shut down in self-defense, getting slower and sicker with every moment and your nervous system becomes more and more compromised.
Today most people have not had their spine, and nervous system regularly checked for subluxation from birth; therefore, it is very likely they have not experienced their true health potential or functioned properly for their entire life. Unless you have a point of reference to compare your current level of health, it is challenging, if not impossible, to imagine what it would be like to have your mind, body, and emotions functioning at their potential. Most people judge their health by the presence or absence of symptoms. Symptoms may occur as soon as a vertebral subluxation is present. HOWEVER, in most cases, a person will have subluxation for months or even years without knowing it. We are often not aware that vertebral subluxation is present until a thorough chiropractic examination is completed.
You Can’t Feel Vertebral Subluxation!
Only 10% of your entire nerve system carries or perceives pain – this is your warning system. What happens when a person’s warning system started going off at birth? That’s right – they get used to it! Up to 90% of your nervous system can be heavily stressed without sounding the alarms, whistles, or warning bells. This is why vertebral subluxation is commonly referred to as the ‘silent killer’ because there are usually no early warning signs – or the warning signs are never related to being a problem with the spine. This is the reason your family members, including children and infants, and your friends and loved ones should be checked for subluxation.
Your Posture is the Window to your Spine and Nerve System.
As such, your posture is like a window into your health. To have the best possible health, you first must have the best possible posture. Today’s science and research have demonstrated the “Ideal” position for your posture and your spine. This “Ideal” position for the spine minimizes the abnormal stress on the nerve system and the degeneration of the discs. From the front, your spine should be perfectly straight – in line with gravity. From the side, you should see three curves: the neck (cervical), the mid-back (thoracic), and the low back (lumbar). Each of these curves has very exacting measures to be considered “Ideal”; however, amazingly enough, they are all very close to a 60º arc. Science and physics have always recognized that a 60º arc, similar to what is used to build bridges, has the ability to distribute the forces of gravity throughout the curve evenly and therefore offers our spine the best defense against the destructive forces of gravity.
Your symptoms are an important part of the picture as they can help us understand your spine’s current health. However, if symptoms are present, they are not a reliable way of measuring your overall health or if your subluxations have been reduced. Remember, your symptoms are usually the tip of the iceberg. Once we have made a thorough evaluation of your spine and determined that we can accept your case, our recommendations will include a series of adjustments, re-evaluations, postural exams, educational programs, and exercises. We will monitor your progress very carefully. We take our role as your primary health and wellness team very seriously and advocate lifetime care for the spine and nerve system. Our educational system includes our ‘Eat Well, Move Well, and Think Well to Be Well’ program that will teach you everything you need to know to get the maximum results from your care. An optimal functioning spine and nerve system is the key to achieving optimal health for each person in your family. Early detection and correction or reduction of subluxation will lead to a healthy body and mind at any stage of life.
